What is Blue Boat Books?

We are making children books.

Books with touching topics, that are able to illuminate fundamental questions like love and security, rich and poor, life and loss, culture, friendship, our existence and our future.

We don't want to use existing publishing structures, therefore are we seeking to build new ones.

And this is how we do it.

An illustrator finds us with a great illustrated story. we are setting out to produce this story into a beautiful, special book.

We approach children's book readers and introduce them to the story.

We ask the future readers to become our supporters by means of monthly donations.

the illustrator and us start working on the book production. Our time scale is set for 4 month.

We need a minimum of 4 euros every month during the production process to be able to pursue our goal, the finished and printed book for every supporter.

Keeping it going.

To remind our readers/supporters of their financial contribution, we send them an email each month with a sneak preview of the stage of production. - A special preview, that we prepare individually with each book. A preview that can be of a moving illustration (stop-motion video), an illustration with music, a storyboard, pictures and insights of the illustrator working, or origami instructions for parts of the story - or whatever the picture book narrative encourages us to do.

At the end of a 4 month full support, each donator will receive a printed copy of the final book that he made possible through his engagement.

We are setting out on an adventurous journey to make illustrated stories into books. This platform aims to join illustrators, authors and picture book enthusiasts (small and big) into a collaborative community that turns ideas into stories and stories into books.

an this is what we are seeking now:

Adventurous Illustrators wanted.

with a special story. We are looking for mesmerizing art and beautiful stories that pair to wonderful narratives, interesting and accessible for both, adult and children readers. Your illustration style should be artistic, intelligent, humorous, new, uncompromising and off the grid. Story and illustrations should form a significant unity.

about blue boat books – the makers

Blue Boat Books is a joint creative undertaking of Claudia Frickemeier and her close collaborative circle of artists and designers.

We seek to find great art and stories and experiment with new concepts, formats, narratives and genres to grow outside the traditional publishing world.

Our focus is in finding and supporting young talents and to explore new paths with them. We do, of course, also admire established artists and authors and do invite them to join us in our creative endeavour.
